Who We Are

Ankeny Law is a cross-border law firm based in Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. We focus on U.S. and Canadian immigration law, trade law, corporate law, and civil litigation. We work with individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and businesses navigating the legal complexities of life and work across the U.S./Canada border and beyond.

We are a small firm by design. Every client who comes to us works directly with an experienced attorney, not a rotating cast of paralegals or junior associates. We believe that is how legal representation should work, especially in immigration matters where the stakes are high and the details matter.

We are also a Veteran-Owned Small Business. Lead attorney Jason Ankeny served in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps before spending more than 15 years as a federal officer with the U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service and U.S. Customs & Border Protection. The values that defined that service, discipline, precision, accountability, and an unflinching commitment to doing the job right, define how we practice law.

What We Believe

Immigration law is not a field where a good attorney and a great attorney produce roughly the same result. The difference between an attorney who studied the law and an attorney who enforced it at the border, adjudicated petitions, and sat in agency policy meetings is the difference between guessing what an agency expects and knowing it. At Ankeny Law, our approach to every case is built on that insider knowledge. We do not speculate. We prepare.

Many firms turn away cases that look difficult, cases with prior denials, complicated fact patterns, or tight timelines. We take a different view. Complex cases are where preparation, experience, and creative legal strategy matter most. If another attorney turned your case away, or if you have already been denied once or twice, that is not a reason to give up. It may simply mean you have not yet worked with the right attorney.

One of the most common frustrations people have with attorneys is being left in the dark. Filing dates come and go with no update. Questions go unanswered for days. At Ankeny Law, communication is not an afterthought. We give you honest assessments upfront, keep you informed throughout your case, and make sure you understand what is happening and why. You should never have to wonder where your case stands.

Quality immigration counsel should not be reserved for people with unlimited budgets. We provide professional legal services for a reasonable fee because we believe that access to experienced representation should be within reach for working professionals, small business owners, and families, not just corporations and the very wealthy.

Behind every petition, application, and hearing is a person, often a family, whose life is directly shaped by the outcome. We do not lose sight of that. We take the time to understand your situation, your goals, and what is at stake for you personally. That context shapes how we approach your case. It is also why clients who came to us years ago continue to call us when new situations arise.

Who We Serve

Ankeny Law serves a wide range of clients across the U.S./Canada corridor and beyond.

From family-based green card petitions to naturalization to waivers of inadmissibility, we help individuals navigate the U.S. and Canadian immigration systems with clarity and confidence. Whether you are trying to bring a family member to the United States, resolve an old immigration issue, or secure your permanent residency, we are here to guide you through it.

The Pacific Northwest, and particularly the Seattle/Vancouver corridor, is one of the most active cross-border business regions in North America. We regularly work with entrepreneurs seeking E-2 investor visas, business owners expanding from Canada into the U.S. or vice versa, and investors navigating the EB-5 program. Our combination of immigration expertise and corporate law background makes us particularly well-suited to serve clients at the intersection of business and borders.

Workforce immigration is one of the most operationally sensitive areas a business can navigate. Missed deadlines, I-9 compliance failures, or improperly handled work authorization can expose a company to significant liability. We help employers manage employment-based immigration from initial petition through long-term corporate compliance, including H-1B, TN, H-2A, and other work visa categories.

The TN visa category under the USMCA is one of the most practical pathways for Canadian and Mexican professionals entering the U.S. workforce, but it is also one of the most mishandled. We have successfully reversed TN denials that other attorneys could not crack. If you are a professional working or planning to work across the border, we understand your situation in detail.

Our Location and Community

Ankeny Law operates from Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, two cities that together form one of the most economically interconnected cross-border regions in the world. The Pacific Highway corridor between Blaine, WA and Vancouver sees billions of dollars in cross-border commerce annually, and the professional and entrepreneurial communities on both sides of the border are deeply intertwined.

Jason Ankeny began his government service career at that very border crossing. He knows this region, its communities, its commerce, and its people, not as an outsider who set up an office here, but as someone who has spent the better part of his adult life working in and around it.

Our Seattle office serves clients throughout Washington State, the Pacific Northwest, and across the United States. Our Vancouver office serves clients in British Columbia and across Canada. And because immigration law rarely confines itself to one jurisdiction, we routinely assist clients whose cases span both countries simultaneously.

A Note on Our Size

We are not a large firm, and we do not try to be. Large firms have their place, but immigration law, particularly at the individual and small business level, is best practiced by attorneys who know their clients personally and carry their cases from start to finish.

When you hire Ankeny Law, you hire the attorney you meet at your consultation. Your case does not get handed off. Your calls do not go to a case manager who will relay messages. You work directly with the lawyer responsible for your outcome.

That is a commitment we make to every client. It is also, in our view, the only way to do this work right.

Connect With Us

If you are facing an immigration challenge, planning a cross-border business move, or simply want to understand your options, we invite you to reach out. The first step is a consultation, a direct conversation with an attorney who will listen to your situation, identify the legal issues, and give you an honest picture of where things stand.

There is no pressure and no guesswork. Just a straightforward conversation with someone who has seen these cases from both sides of the desk.
